Thank you for being a member.
During this time of national crisis, when information and connections are so important,
the Weekly Wrap-Up will be made available to members and non-members.

CEO Brief -

Our work around the COVID crisis has dominated what we have focused on this week, as it has for the last 6 months since the outbreak started. We continue to work with members and community partners to share and connect information and resources to those in need. State grants for nonprofits to assist with relief programs were released this week. We are looking at applying for funds for the work we have been doing and will continue to do, and are happy to help connect you to more information and assistance if you are interested.
Positive cases continue to climb locally and statewide, while not at the rate they were in July, there are several other factors and signs that are concerning. I expect a new decision on the phase Nashville is in to be made next week, and it will likely be more of the same. We have got to all do our part and that starts with wearing a mask. It was great that many members used and shared the #MaskForNash pride mask image and pushed the campaign. Please join us.

I hope that Congress can come to a deal on further relief. There are so many that need assistance on so many levels. Chambers of Commerce also have a stake in the possible new relief. We have been working on and watching this along with several other issues, advocating through our national partners. Here in Tennessee, the Governor has called a Special Session next week and additional COVID related bills are going to be the focus. We have been working on several that will help our nonprofit and small business members. We will update you next week on what gets passed.

I hope everyone VOTED Thursday in the Election. Look at the Election Wrap-Up below for more information on the results. We will start early voting in October for the November 3rd General Election. Register to VOTE if you are not already. We will continue and greatly expand our Pride at the Polls campaign with several other LGBTQ+ community partners.

Keep reading and check out some fun stuff below! I attended Sunday Tea last week at the Hermitage Hotel and loved it! I highly recommend this unique, fun, and safe event from our member. We had a great AM Brewing Up Business this week, watch the public comments and see what we do and get even more info on us, then join us on the next one! We have a fun cocktail/mocktail special that benefits our work and will be highlighted. And our President, Ron Snitker, is a model and talked about the Chamber.

Alongside partners from across the community, NashvilleHealth announced the launch of #MaskForNash or #ÚselaPorNash – a community-wide effort to encourage citizens to care for our hometown by wearing a mask or cloth face covering when in public.

Joe Woolley, CEO of the Nashville LGBT Chamber said, “We are thrilled to be joining this community initiative to help push people to wear a mask and show that we are all in this together and need to do our part. We have been pushing mask-wearing and showing pride from the beginning of the epidemic, partnering with Metro Health and the Mayor’s Office. It is great to see our community partners working together on this under this campaign, and we are grateful for Nashville Health for spearheading it.”

What We Did
We thank all the candidates that put themselves out there and ran. For a full breakdown of the results, we recommend this report from our member Schmidt Government Solutions

We are excited to see that there will be three and possibly four LGBTQ candidates on the November ballot running for seats in the Tennessee House of Representatives.

?Democratic primary winner, Torrey Harris, is running in District 90 in Memphis against incumbent John Deberry. Democrat Brandon Thomas will take on incumbent Republican Rep. Mike Sparks in Rutherford County. Republican Knoxvillian Eddie Mannis won his Republican primary last night and will face Democrat Virginia Couch. Democrat Matthew Park in Knoxville is within 23 votes of winning the Democratic primary there with provisional ballots to still be counted but trails the front runner for now.

Our member, Nashville International Airport, spoke with Out and About Nashville about awarding contracts to small, minority, and women-owned businesses. Thank you to BNA and CEO Doug Kreulen for your membership and leadership!

You can also take a virtual tour of BNA's new Concourse D. This concourse features 6 gates, energy-efficient lighting, touchless bathroom fixtures, nursing mother designated areas, beautiful local art, and so much more. Take the tour below!

We held another successful virtual networking event on Thursday morning. If you haven't already, make time to join us for a future event. This is a great opportunity to connect and generate business in small groups.

You can watch the announcements from this event below.

Our Board President, Ron Snitker, was named a 2020 Model Behavior nominee in Nfocus Magazine! We are so proud of his work at the Chamber. Check out the full article below.

The U.S. Census Bureau is committed to a complete and accurate 2020 Census. To date, only 93 million households, nearly 63 percent of all households in the Nation, have responded to the 2020 Census. If you haven't done so, you have until September 30th to particiate in this year's Census.
?
Responses from the LGBTQ+ community, a historically undercounted community, will provide reliable data to inform advocates, policymakers, and researchers working on LGBTQ+ issues. Check out this 2020 Census LGBTQ+ Fact Sheet and take part in the census now.

To celebrate 100 years of women's suffrage history, the historic Hermitage Hotel offers Suffrage Tea service. In 1920, the Hermitage played a large part in helping secure the final vote for women when TN became the final state to ratify the 19th Amendment, meeting there to lobby for votes.

?This is an incredible, unique experience. In addition to high tea, you can take part of one of the many events to celebrate this milestone!
