Weekly Wrap-Up: February 1, 2019

Another busy week is ending and there is a lot I need to update you on. Here is your Weekly Wrap Up!

Predators Pride Night-

I hope you will be joining us on Tuesday at the 4th Annual Predators Pride Night! I hope you have your tickets because if you don't, it will be hard to get them! The game is almost sold out and we have sold a record number of tickets with he PRIDE18 community code! We have sold over 300 tickets for Pride Night! You can still try to get some here.

We will start the night at 5:30 with the pre-game reception sponsored by Postmates! This event is open to everyone! You don’t have to be a member of the Chamber to attend. We will have some special announcements and then we will go in and cheer on the Predators at 7pm.

Our member Ron Sanford will be riding the Zamboni between the 1st and 2nd periods. Thanks to the Predators for offering the amazing experience to us to auction off at TASTE, and to Ron for purchasing it! Wave to Ron and cheer him on! Make sure to take lots of pics and tag the Chamber in all your Pride Night fun! Go Preds!

Letter to Governor Lee-

The Chamber sent a letter to newly inaugurated Governor Lee on Wednesday. Lee's Executive Order 4, directs the state human resources commissioner to review all hiring practices to ensure there is no discrimination based on race, color, national origin, age, sex, pregnancy, religion, creed, disability, veteran’s status, or any other category protected by state and federal law; this is already the state's workplace discrimination and harassment policy.

We applauded the directive to provide training in non-discrimination policies to executive agency employees. This is an important step to protecting state employees from discrimination in their jobs. However, we have to note that this Executive Order does leave out protections for the state’s lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) employees due to a lack of such protections in federal law. We would respectfully ask that you consider adding protection from discrimination for state employees based upon “sexual orientation or gender identity.”

We also asked that he implement protections to state employees as other Republican governors have. You can read the full letter here.

We will continue to advocate for our members and the community with the State and will keep you updated as the Legislative Session moves forward.

Brewing Up Business-

Monday Lauren and I did a site visit at the Adventure Science Center to plan our February Brewing Up Business on the 28th! You do not want to miss this event! We will be networking and having fun in their Space Chase exhibit. This will be a perfect chance to get out of the house during winter. We will hear from the Adventure Science Center on what they are working on and we will talk about a major policy initiative and the Business Awards! Find out more info and register here

Don’t be an A**hole and Outwod-

The Chamber is proud to help bring a national town hall discussion to Nashville called Don’t Be an A**hole. Its focus is around providing transgender education services to the greater CrossFit, fitness and general business communities by sharing best practices for ensuring fitness is a safe space for transgender and gender non-conforming athletes. After the town hall, there will also be a workout for any fitness level called Outwod. I talked to Out and About Nashville about it. I hope you can make it and spread the word.

Membership Sticker Survey

You should have received a survey from Lauren Bland on Wednesday about the 2019 Chamber membership sticker. If you haven’t already done so, please give us your input by completing this short survey!

Tax Letters

You should have received a donation letter for your tax purposes from us if you donated to the Chamber Foundation. If you did not receive on and think you should have, please contact Lauren

Nashville PRIDE

Our community partner Nashville PRIDE held winter mixer on Tuesday. At the event, they announced that there would be a parade this year! They also opened up registration for booths. Don’t wait and miss your opportunity to participate in each event, there are only a limited number of each and we would hate for you not to be a part. The Chamber will be there and if you are a member will be featured in our PRIDE Scavenger Hunt.
