CEO Brief-
?
Sorry this is later than usual. Lots of things changing as we wrap the week.
Ending the week with an
ACTION ALERT
! We need you to pay attention and take action! The week was busy getting ready for the start of the legislative session, I knew it was going to be the main focus but on Thursday we found out that the adoption bill from last year was going to be up for a vote the first day of session on the Senate floor and not deferred until later like we were hoping. Needless to say, things have been crazy since then. Things are not looking good on having the bill deferred or pulled by the sponsor, therefore
it will be voted on by the Senate on Tuesday and looks to pass.
This is going to send a terrible signal at the start of session. We are doing all we can but we need your help.
See below on what to do.
We welcomed a new
Platinum Level
member this week! It is always great to have a new member and especially one at that level! What makes
Camelot Care Centers
a great addition at this time is we will work with them on adoption options for same-sex couples in response to the adoption bill. There will still be ways for LGBT people to adopt children and companies like Camelot are here to help. Look for programming we will offer with Camelot soon and welcome them to the Chamber.
I was honored to have two articles published this week on the work we do. I was recognized as a 40 Under 40 of LGBTQ Leaders nationally by BEQ Magazine, and then the Nashville Business Journal profiled me for their 'Boss' series. Both give a good glimpse of the work I am lucky enough to get to do for you and that I love doing. I hope you will take a look at them below and let me know what you think.
We celebrated Lauren's 1 year anniversary this week as well. I can not imagine what I would do without her here at the Chamber. It has been an incredible year and she is so valued.
Thank you Lauren for all your hard work.
Take a look at all the awesome connections and member perks we are bringing you this week!
You will get several emails from us next week regarding the start of Session so stay engaged. Let us know if you need more info or want to get more involved. Thanks for your membership and talk soon.

This is the
ACTION ALERT
that went to non-members today. We wanted you to see what they saw. In addition to what is in the alert, there is also the updated bill tracker to see where everything stands. Please reach out to me if you would like to engage as a business or corporation directly with those listed below.

The Tennessee legislative session will begin next week. The discriminatory Adoption Bill that advanced through the House last year, is already scheduled for a final vote on the Senate floor on Tuesday, January 14.
We need your help to tell legislators to VOTE NO on this harmful bill:
- SB1304/HB836 would allow a child-placing agency to refuse to provide or facilitate adoption services if those adoption services conflict with the child-placing agency's sincerely-held religious beliefs, to the extent allowed by federal law. This bill was approved by the House on April 1, 2019.
We strongly encourage you to contact your state senators and urge them to vote NO on this harmful bill. To find out how to contact your local legislators,
We also urge you to click the links below and contact the bill sponsors and Senate leadership to express your concern about this bill:
Make sure to follow

on Twitter and

on Facebook for information – we encourage you to like and share the content with your followers to raise awareness about the potential consequences of the legislation.
Thank you.

Other things you as members can do -
- Please sign TN Thrives is you are a business and have not already done so.
- We need businesses that would go on record if this passes with a statement. Please reach out to me.
- Help us bring adoption services in as members so that we can respond with a campaign of resources if this bill passes. Thanks again to Camelot for joining us this week.

Intersectionality Around Marginalized Communities -
'Secret Soldiers: Civil War Heroines in Disguise'
|
Please join us for an evening of art, education, and conversation at the
Nashville Children's Theatre
's special showing of '
Secret Soldiers: Civil War Heroines in Disguise
' sponsored by
AllianceBernstein
on
Friday, January 24th
.
A reception will be held at 6 pm and the show will start at 7 pm. Stick around after the show for a Q&A session where we will further tackle the themes of '
Secret Soldiers
'.
While the Civil War rages on outside the walls of the Marine U.S.A. General Hospital, another conflict arises inside. A nurse has discovered that injured Private Lyons Wakeman is actually Sarah Wakeman, a woman! Should the hospital registry be changed to prove that women can fight in battle? Or should it stay intact so Sarah can receive her earned pension and her family avoid shame?
Based on over 250 military accounts of women who fought as Union soldiers, the audience will hear testimony from historical characters like Harriet Tubman and members of the first African American regiment, act as jury, and deliver the verdict on Private Lyons’ fate.
Please note: We ask that all guests register for the reception AND purchase tickets using the 2 links below. If you are unable to attend, we hope you will look at other showings of this performance. Members of the Nashville LGBT Chamber can use promo code
BRGUEST
to receive $3 off each ticket purchased for the other showings of
