Speaking about the Chamber-

We were lucky enough to be invited to speak to two incredible groups about what we do.

We went to Franklin on Monday night and spoke to our member PFLAG Franklin on what the Chamber has been working on, specifically what we are doing around anti-LGBT legislation and the oppourtunites LGBT people have in the corporate world. It was so inspiring to hear from parents, allies, and members of the community about coming out and the challenges and

opportunities that their family, friends, and themselves are facing. This is an incredible group doing the important work of building community. Find out more information about them and attend a meeting if you are down in Williamson County.

Thursday, we were invited to speak to soon-to-be member News Channel 5. Channel 5 faced some bad press on how they celebrate Pride in June. They have learned a tough lesson and are working hard to move forward from it. They are a company and community that has a long and committed history with LGBT equality, diversity and inclusion with their staff and the broader community. We are very happy to be working with them as they move forward.

Our partners at the Center for Nonprofit management are sharing an exciting leadership opportunity with us. Have you asked yourself how to create or maintain a positive and intentional work culture for your team? Do you struggle to offer an attractive benefits package that won’t break the bank? Do you have a strategy for finding and keeping top talent? Join Insperity’s Emily Hak and Todd Bowman as we unpack how to best care for your employees on Thursday, July 18th from 8 am - 9:30 am. Registration is now open.

Queer Qlassics

From our member and 2019 Leadership in the Arts Award winner The Belcourt Theatre.

Following June’s 50th anniversary of the Stonewall Riots in New York (considered the birth of the modern LGBTQIA movement), it seems fair and necessary to highlight several films which have helped to document the history of the queer community. The Belcourt Theatre brings you the film series “Queer Qlassics”. The series started this Wednesday with Paris is Burning. Tickets are available now. Make plans to attend one of the following showings:

  • Before Stonewall, Wednesday, July 17th, 7:00 pm: Post-screening discussion with Marisa Richmond, MTSU women's and gender studies professor and member of the Metro Human Rights Coalition -- the first transgender city board member in Nashville history; and Abby Rubenfeld, civil rights attorney and CEO of Rubenfeld Law Office, PC

  • The Bigger Splash, Wednesday, July 24th, 7:00 pm: Introduction from artist, stylist, and conservationist Arthur Kirkby

  • The Queen, Wednesday, July 31st, 7:00 pm: Post-screening performance/discussion with Anita Coxx, Tammy Whynot and Thierry Meisel of the SheHaw drag show
