The Weekly

Wrap Up

March 26, 2021

Your MEMBER ONLY email on all things the Chamber worked on this week

and what you need to know to get the most out of your membership.

Thank you for being a member.

During this time of national crisis, when information and connections are so important,

the Weekly Wrap-Up will be made available to members and non-members.

We are here for you and in this together.

CEO Brief

I hope you saw the Advocacy Alert and Update that we sent on Friday evening. In a large way that was the "Weekly Wrap Up" as the legislature and advocacy took up an enormous amount of our time. We still had other events and there were things you should know about regarding COVID and information to better yourself and your business. Take a look at that below!

We held Classroom Connect and talked with our partners at the Entrepreneur Center about starting your business and the programs that the EC offer and we support with scholarships for members that are interested in taking them.

We are also excited to announce a lot of events coming up this spring and summer. We are announcing the date for Predators Pride night in April, see below.  We will also be announcing details and calling for nominations for the Pride in Business Awards in June! June will be a busy month with two other events that month put on and benefiting the Chamber. We will be sending more information out on all of these in the next few weeks.

I hope you weathered the storm this weekend. Historic rainfall and flooding, add it to the list of what Nashville has gone through. We dealt with flooding 11 years ago and I am sure we have this taken care of too. We are a strong city and community. We are going to need to be to weather the storm we are headed in to if the state continues to discriminate.

ADVOCATE

For this week, all other legislative information can be found in the Advocacy Alert and Update sent on Friday. Make sure you read it and are fully educated on the fallout and taking action.

Our statement on the state of legislation and Governor Lee signing the Anti-Trans Athlete bill into law. -

While the damage to trans children and youth is incalculable, Tennessee businesses will pay a very calculable price for this legislative hubris. Shame on our supposedly pro-business Governor and Legislature for spending their time and energy targeting trans children, when the state is still in economic crisis from the COVID pandemic, while risking further economic damage from passing such legislation.

It is a shame that the Tennessee Legislature is focused on discrimination and attacking trans-youth, instead of COVID-19 recovery and supporting our struggling small businesses. Our state is playing with fire in the form of boycotts and economic harm that will come with the passage of this bill and others that they are pushing.

Tennessee’s business community will pay the huge bill for legislated hate. We are all about to get burned by this unneeded legislation, the scar it will leave is looking worse than the one left in North Carolina after they passed the bathroom bill. Maybe the pain from that will make elected officials wake up and realize how wrong this was. They didn’t listen to businesses that made it clear this was bad, and they don’t care about the personal harm it is having on children or what Tennesseans are telling them is important to focus on, like the economy and education.
