May Brewing Up Business-

Due to several conflicts, we have had to cancel the May Brewing Up Business that was scheduled next week on Thursday the 16th. We were to have a meet and greet with all candidates running for Metro office for the August 1st election. We will have them at our massive June Pride Brewing Up Business event on June 20th so you can meet them in person and talk about your vote. We are sorry to cancel this month’s event but it has been a busy month. Mark your calendars for next month and we will make it even bigger and better for you to make lots of personal and professional connections.

Reminder- we are working on an LGBT Community Mayoral Forum for July.

All Chambers Meeting-

On Thursday, we met with representatives from other chambers: Nashville Area Chamber, Hispanic Area Chamber, Tennessee Latin American Chamber, Nashville Black Chamber, Goodlettsville Chamber, and Madison Chamber. We discussed ways to promote leadership in our chambers. We also discussed ways we can work together to make Nashville the best place to do business. We are always so excited to collaborate!

World Cafe: What’s Next for LGBTQ+ Nashville-

Thursday night nearly 50 LGBTQ community members who are aligned with a broad swath of the Nashville community participated in a World Cafe-style visioning exercise at Thistle Farms. The Chamber was represented by Lauren and board members Ron Snitker, Jen Austin, Linzie Treadway, and Mac Huffington. This project is part of a data-gathering exercise that Nashville Pride has embarked on. There were questions about the current assets and needs for the LGBTQ community and individuals within the community.

We have already benefited from this conversation by hearing needs that the Chamber can help with like- "we need inclusive job fairs", "we need to know who has a welcoming environment for trans employees", "we need job training/development skills", "we need an LGBT mentoring program".

The next phase of the project consists of a small group, kitchen table conversation with community members who align with a specific identity within the LGBTQ community. Contact Nashville Pride and the Community Affairs team to be considered as a host.

Bloomberg-

Bloomberg follows up on the legislative session and work of the business community to keep Tennessee welcoming and inclusive. Thanks again to the businesses and organizations that helped us delay these bad bills for another year. We are already working to stop them again. Nashville wants to be the next Austin, but Tennessee won’t make it easy.

Mayoral Opinion Piece-

LGBT Chamber member and 2019 Business Awards finalist Eric Patton was a featured columnist in the Tennessean this week. His opinion piece, “I am an LGBTQ activist who broke bread with Carol Swain. I related to her, but she hasn't changed” looks at Nashville mayoral candidate Carol Swain's supporters and big donors who hate that Nashville is a welcoming, progressive city.
