The Weekly

Wrap Up

November 12, 2021

Your email on all things the Chamber worked on this week and what you need to know.

CEO Brief

It was a busy week of events. Lauren has been up in Canada this week now that the border opened up, visiting her fiance’s family! I will be out next week with Leadership TN and then at the NGLCC national LGBT chamber conference in Florida. I will miss being there, but we will have great representation from the board, and Lauren will have everything under control for Brewing Up Business on Thursday at Thistle Farms. Have you registered yet? You don’t want to miss this event.

We had a great Corporate Connect Program this week where our corporate members who have LGBT/ally employee resource groups, meet to discuss strategy and best practices. If this is something you would be interested in please let us know.

Our board met for their bi-monthly board meeting to review chamber matters. Thanks to all of them for their service. We will be announcing the new slate of board members soon, and they will be confirmed at our Annual Meeting and Holiday Party on December 9th.

You can see more about the many other member events we participated in this week below. From the Nashville Business Journal Power Breakfast to the P2030 economic discussion with the Area Chamber, or the Music City Prep Clinic Annual Awards Celebration to the Tennessee Latin American Chamber of Commerce Luncheon. It was a busy week filled with great events.

We hope you had a wonderful week too and we will see you at ours or another event soon.

- Joe

ADVOCACY

The Tennessee Special Session on COVID19 policies ended, here is the information and policy changes we think our members should know aboutGovernor Lee signed the legislation into law this week.

Businesses pushed back hard on many of the policies that were implemented. You can read more about the displeasure of the business community, it will be interesting to watch what comes of this.

Our partners at the Nashville Area Chamber are working on a webinar for businesses to know what to expect and plan for with these changes. We will share that info as soon as we get it, so you can prepare for what is to come.

We hope you will join us at the Nashville Transgender Day of Remembrance that will be held on Tuesday, November 16th at Scarritt Bennett Chapel.

WHAT WE DID

The Nashville Business Journal Hosted their first in-person event in 18 months bringing back the Business Breakfast. We heard about diversity and inclusion in NASCAR and many other topics about the sport from Nashville Superspeedway President, Erik Moses.

The Nashville Area Chamber held a Partnership 2030 presentation on hybrid vehicles and the position Tennessee is in to be a leader in this area.

The Tennessee Latin American Chamber of Commerce held its Fall Networking Lunch. Their first in-person event in many months was packed. We love our partnership with TLACC and it was great to hear from Preds CEO Sean Henry on Diversity and Inclusion.

Congrats to a longtime member and one of our first LGBT certified businesses. Elliot Nobel-Holt who founded and runs MediCopy Services Inc. released a book this week.

Joe was lucky enough to be asked to read it early and give a quote.

"Through his involvement in the Nashville LGBT Chamber and the broader business community, I was aware and proud of Elliott's work and success in both. That appreciation was taken to a whole new level after reading about his journey in his own words in this book. He shares intimate moments of his life and how that shaped him into the leader he is today, and how that work is accomplished and balanced with the many parts of his identity. It is wonderful to see an LGBT leader share their success and story to help show that we all want to live our true lives and be our authentic selves and that we should be judged by our actions and work and how we make an impact. The book speaks to Elliott's commitment to diversity and inclusion in all forms, and in business, D&I works when it is embraced at the top. This book and his understanding and commitment are a model for others to follow on the path to full equity at the office."

“Bald Bearded Boss” is out now! Read more about it here and check out the Hot Deals section on how to buy.
