Name Change & Federal ID Legal Clinic for TGX Professionals

Saturday, January 11, 2025 (10:00 AM - 1:00 PM) (CST)

Description

The Pride Chamber Foundation’s Name Change & Federal ID Project provides pro bono legal help to prepare name change petitions and apply for, renew or update passports to reflect a corrected name and/or gender to transgender, gender expansive, and non-binary professionals through partnerships with prestigious local law firms. Services are provided through an in-person clinic, and in exceptional circumstances, can be provided online on a rolling basis.

Having the appropriate identity documents can help people applying for jobs, post-secondary education, and public benefits, and prevent or mitigate discrimination.

Legal representation to prepare name change petitions and obtain federal id with correct name and gender assists and empowers people to navigate the legal process, learn about their options, and move forward with their lives.

Requirements:

To ensure you’re eligible for these services, you must:

  • Be a resident of a county in Tennessee
  • Be 18 or over
  • Review & accept the limited scope agreement (provided at the clinic)

Process:

Step 1 – Complete the intake form

Requests for help with a name change petition or passport application, renewal or correction must be submitted via our online intake form or in person on the day of the clinic. A member of the TN Pride Chamber will review the form and respond via email if submitted online.

(Note: Completing the intake form does not guarantee representation and may require further information for eligibility.)

Step 2 – Referral to attorney

If eligible for representation, the person will be referred to an attorney for name or gender marker change representation and/or assistance with the filing process.

TN Pride Chamber does not represent people seeking legal services, but rather, the Pride Chamber partners with law firms who take on representation of TNPC-referred participants through this initiative.
